The "Gist" of it: In this exercise, you are seeing how your current frustration compares to a past frustration -- one that you once thought was big but now think is small.
Why itâs important: Itâs important because reflecting on past experiences can give us perspective in the present.
There is something about the present moment that puts a blur in our perspectives. It causes us to exaggerate our frustrations. To overestimate the magnitude of our problems. Never are we worse at evaluating a moment than when we are in it. Never are we more prone to making mountains out of molehills.
